Western Sport Shop: Photo Gallery: Carlo's Atlantic Salmon Trip

Carlo's Notebook - Miramichi River Atlantic Salmon - Fall 2001

Western Sport Shop Fly Fishing Guru Carlo Bongio went in search of Atlantic Salmon on the Miramichi River. Fishing through Wilsons Lodge, he spent many hours of tough fishing before hooking into this gorgeous fish.
A big river and few fish means a lot of casting and steady presentations. You can't afford to miss any water.

Anglers are given specific areas to fish. In the eastern rivers, you sometimes end up side-by-side.

With these fall colors, you know you aren't in California.
Sometimes it takes your mind off of the fact that you had a few fishless days
Of course, a better antidote is hooking up the mythical Atlantic Salmon.

Swirling into the net, with a drifting fall leaf for a little extra atmosphere...

And a fish like this makes all the effort worth it! Another beautiful Atlantic Salmon - this one was just too darned big fo the net! - with a little help from his guide, Carlo poses with the big fish of the week.
