Hunting Department

Hunting is a pursuit of moments; coaxing a wary turkey out of the underbrush, getting a flight of ducks to set their wings and angle over the decoys at daybreak on a cold winter morning, stalking wily game over the hills and valleys. Hunting demands much more of a commitment than many pursuits. Most of us grew up hunting game in the fields and forests of our youth. Despite pressures of modern urbanization, these traditions have carried on. Efforts of hunters have maintained habitats and enhanced breeding grounds throughout the continent.

There are not many stores that still maintain a true hunting department. At Western Sport Shop, we have made the commitment to carrying gear and equipment with a proven history of quality. When you take your pastimes seriously, you understand that equipment can't let you down. Whether you are seeking a fine example of sporting arms heritage or just need a jacket that won't wear out in the middle of nowhere, we have your needs covered. Why? Well, because we've been out there, motionless for hours, straining to see and ready to respond.

What we Stock - Hunting Department

You really have to see our stores to believe the broad selection we maintain. We learned a long time ago that not everyone wants exactly the same gear for the same pursuit. Our commitment is to stock those items which serve the needs of our customers. Over countless seasons afield, customers and employees have used the gear we stock and reported back on how well they have withstood the challenges of real-world use. (If you have some experiences to report, email us at feedback@westernsportshop.com ). Based on that track record, we decide what stays in the store. Sometimes it means we keep six or seven different types of firearm lube in stock, because of the differing demands of conditions and temperature. But, we also understand the importance of having the right stuff when you are far from home.

We maintain a selection of high quality sporting firearms from Benelli, Browning, Merkel, Ithaca, Remington, Ruger and more. We also sell many collectible firearms and accept consignment sales. If you are interested in getting more information about consignment sales, please call our San Rafael store at 415.456.5454. Of course, we sell ammunition for whatever sporting needs you have.

There's nothing worse than clothing which doesn't work well. We stock a wide selction of traditonal designs from from Filson (a manufacturer that predates our stores!), plus the newest in technical fabrics and construction from Columbia, Gamehide, and Mossy Oak. Choose from a wide variety of camoflage patterns and styles. From the hottest August afternoon to the chilliest mountain pass, we suit you up correctly.

We maintain a wide selection of handmade and tuned calls from Frankies, Commander 'n Chief and Iverson, plus a wide variety of commercial calls from traditional companies such as Faulk's, Olt, Haydel's and Wiingsetter. (Please note: duck call availability can vary outside of the main season.)

Our selection of knives include handmade Doolittle and Humphrey stag handled models, plus old standards of Browning, Buck, Columbia River, Gerber, Spyderco, Victronox Swiss Army Knives.

Also, we have Filson's bombproof luggage, camoflage daypacks from a variety of manufacturers, a complete department of reloading equipment, cleaning supplies and gear for almost any need in the field. Any time you need something we don't stock, special orders are not a problem.
